The Joy Of Reading

I was always an avid reader and used to read 2-3 books a week. Although I've slowed down in my reading, it's still one of my favorite pass times. I found an old question book meme that I had posted a few years back and I see my answer would still be the same.

When growing up did your family share your love of books? If so, did one person get you into reading? And, do you have any family-oriented memories with books and reading? (Family trips to bookstore, reading the same book as a sibling or parent, etc.)  When I was a child, reading books were the way to go for enjoyment. I had no real influence as I just loved to read and at Christmas and my birthdays my aunts would always give me books. First and foremost was and is The Bible.
I grew up with all the great classics like Dickens, Cristie, Austin, Tolkein, Lewis, Verne, etc.. and I still enjoy reading them today. My father used to love anything science fiction and I remember sneaking his books at night and reading them in my room after everyone was sleeping.

Do you read? What is your favorite book or books? Let me know what books you like to read if you do. And until next time be blessed.

  1. That's one area you and I are not alike. I rarely read. In fact, every time I try to read a book (I do like mysteries), I find that I get through a chapter or two, put it aside and never pick it up again. I wish I had your desire to read - I think it would be a good thing.

  2. Oh yes, we loved to read...Nancy Drew, the Bobbsie Twins, the Hardy Boys, Agatha Christie....my parents were our greatest influence, I even started reading the newspaper when I was in kindergarten. I always said I wanted to own a book store or work in a library...smiles

I just finished Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates by Brian Kilmeade...if you like historical fact based, I highly recommend that one, smiles.

  3. I hope you don't mind if I borrow this question for a post on my blog too.
I read mystery like Agatha Christie and Robert Parker's Spenser for Hire and Jesse Stone, and some other British mystery writers. I sometimes like biography too.
