Friday Foto Friends #58

I thought a virtual fun trip to New York City's Radio City Music Hall to see the 2016 Christmas show would be nice for today. When I was younger, my family and I would go to see the show. After we would stop at the "Automat".  (see below for photo and short history)  Not being able to go anymore I can only view it in photos or a special on TV. This is part of the 2016 show. I love that they always keep the Nativity in the show every year. Here we go viewing in front row seats :)

Horn and Hardart's Automat was one of the wonders of New York. The last New York Horn & Hardart Automat (on the southeast corner of 42nd Street and Third Avenue) closed in April 1991. For nickels and dimes you would get sandwiches, soup, desserts, etc, on regular dishes, silverware, cups, glasses. We always stopped there every time we went to Manhattan.

We are finally getting a true winter type weather with temps below zero and blustery winds to make it feel like 25-30 below zero. Today is predicted to be the coldest day of the year. The weird thing is by the weekend it will be around 35-40 degrees along with a snow storm. Crazy isn't it! Oh well! It doesn't pay to complain as I'm hibernating until next week along with my books, coffee, movies and music. Here's wishing you all a day of blessings and a wonderful weekend.

  3. We have never seen the Rocketts...that is on my bucket list. Bitter cold, snowy, icy here in western NY too...we have to get out today to do some shopping.

  4. I remember the first time I went to an automat. I was intrigued. I never got to see the Rockettes during this Christmas show at Radio City. My pastor's wife and daughter are headed to NYC today for a few days. They have been very excited. Have a wonderful weekend.

  5. Those are wonderful pictures. I saw the rockettes when they came to Dallas and was very surprised at the Nativity being such a worshipful ending to the show. Loved it. My brother and his wife saw them in NYC.

  6. Saw the Rockettes often, several were my friends from dancing school.
I agree the religious parts are so important. Glad the new anti-religion hasn't hit the show so far.
Icy cold here in NJ. My daughter heads home to JFK from London today. Actually her flight just now departed from Gatwick. I pray like crazy when my kids travel!
Hope your weekend is extra special. Stay warm up there!

  7. What beautiful pictures of the Radio City Music Hall programs...so colorful! I LOVE the Nativity scene...that is wonderful to know that they do that! I never got to see the automat, but heard about it. What a great idea that was for the time...and probably would still be...but I guess there are too many fast food places now. I hope you are safe and warm and cozy inside your home. It was in the 40's here this morning in Florida...I know...not cold to you...but to us..well...it was actually kind of nice! Warmed up now to the 70's. But I do love a good snow now and then...I miss it. But not enough to go live in it again. LOL! Merry Christmas!

  9. What great photos of what has to be an awesome time on stage! Traditions are great and I'm glad you still get to see the show, even in a different media. I just missed the 'automat' craze but it seems it was pretty cool.
