Reader Of Books

It's the beginning of a new year and I thought I would start the year telling you about one of my quiet relaxing pass times. I was always an avid reader and used to read 2-3 books a week. Although I've slowed down in my reading, it's still one of my favorite things to do. I found an old question book meme that I had posted awhile ago that I thought you might like to answer. Below is my answer to the meme.

When growing up did your family share your love of books? If so, did one person get you into reading? And, do you have any family-oriented memories with books and reading? (Family trips to bookstore, reading the same book as a sibling or parent, etc.)  When I was a child, reading books were the way to go for enjoyment. I had no real influence as I just loved to read and at Christmas and my birthdays my aunts would always give me books. First and foremost was and is The Bible.
I grew up with all the great classics like Dickens, Cristie, Austin, Tolkein, Lewis, Verne, etc.. and I still enjoy reading them today. My father used to love anything science fiction and I remember sneaking his books at night and reading them in my room after everyone was sleeping.

Do you read? What is your favorite book or books? Let me know what books you like to read if you do. And until the next time be blessed.

  1. I've loved reading. This past year, I slacked off a bit just trying to get my mind quiet enough to focus. I'm hoping this year to get going again. I honestly don't remember reading much as a child or any family focus on reading. As a teenager, I loved to read mysteries like Trixie Belden. It was later as an adult that the reading bug clicked. I loved reading Dr Seuss to my kids and reading has been my way of traveling and learning and adventure. My reading tastes have been more for series books. I still like mysteries (especially Agatha Christie) but I love the Mitford series and the two Miss Read series.

  3. I've always loved to read and my home is full of books!! I love Christian fiction, a good mystery or love story. I also read a lot of Bible study type books, right now I'm reading Believing God by Beth Moore and it's great.

  4. I read a lot of Christian fiction. I go to the library every other week and get a new load of books to read! Of course I read the Bible and several different devotional type books as well. I grew up loving to read. My parents had a lot of books...I wish I could have kept them all! My mother and I both loved old fashioned romances/adventure stories written around the turn of the century or earlier. I have some collections of a few different authors. As a matter of fact, I am going to the library tomorrow!!

  6. I love to read old fashioned romances too. I am now reading a book written by Melissa Jagears (A Bride in store) It is translated to Dutch and I am glad with all 398 pages.
