Wednesday's Poetry Day ~ A Day In The Sun

Looking forward to the "real" summer weather in my area and seeing how families enjoy spending a day in the sun made me think and write a poem about it.

A Day In The Sun

Sitting at the beach taking in the sun
and watching families near the shore
Kids chasing each other and having fun
splashing and laughing begging for more

How wonderful the summer days are
when families spend days together
Playing in the sand by the seashore
and just enjoying the summer weather

Not a cloud in the bright blue sky
nor call for rain or thunderstorm
I watch the seagulls flying on by
and the soft breeze is slightly warm

So fast this day now passes on by
and the families now get ready to go
They pass me waving a friendly goodbye
as the sky turns to an evening glow

I too now dress and get ready to go
folding my chair I turn once more
And see the seagulls circling slow
I watch as waves now kiss the shore

How wonderful the summer days are
when families spend days together
Playing in the sand by the seashore
and just enjoying the summer weather

  4. I remember those days as a child. We packed a lunch and spent the day at the beach, and came home tired, sunburned, and hungry...but always so happy to have had a day on the seashore!! Lovely poem. Brought back some precious memories.

  5. wonderful poem. I remember spending so much time in the water as a kid that I would have to wrap up in a thick towel to warm up! My lips would be turning blue at the end of the day.
I loved it! I miss not being able to get in the surf.
I remember my dad sitting in his chair in the sand his feet covered with a towel since he seemed to burn there so easily. The lunch packed in the cooler.... but we preferred the boardwalk food and longed for a hot dog.
    Good stuff.
