Wednesday's Poetry Day ~ Phone Call

Got a new LG Stylus 3 cell phone and I'm loving it. I have to get used to the almost 6 inches screen and all the new settings and toys  (not real toys or games)   on it. Here's what it looks like  (this one is not my own phone, mine is a Tracfone not a Cricket).  I love that stylus.

And now here's my poem I wrote called
"Phone Call From A Friend"

I got a phone call from a friend today
How you doing? What's new? Oh, by the way
You'd never guess who popped in to say hi
Not for long for they really had to fly

Asked me if I heard anything from you
Said we keep in touch but nothing new
Was time to leave they then got up to go
Say hi to you they wanted you to know

Well I guess that's all for now my friend
Hope all is well you have a great weekend
Call me soon and let me know what's new
I'll do the same as I enjoy talking to you

Yes it was great chatting with my friend
And I repeated back have a good weekend
Will definitely call if anything is new
For I too also enjoyed talking with you

We both said goodbye and hung up the phone
All was quiet now I kind of felt alone
A knock on my door made the feeling go away
As another friend asked, "how was your day?".

Just Saying..

I thought I would let you know why I haven't been visiting blogs lately. I've been trying to keep off the computer as much as possible and believe me it isn't easy for me. With this crazy weather these past two weeks I've been dealing with arthritis in my left hand fingers and this is the hand I use mostly for the keyboard. I'm also dealing with bursitis in my right shoulder which has caused me to cut down on my computer projects. Thank goodness I have always pre-posted many blog entries. not this one as it's one I did last night with the slowest typing I have done in many moons. Hopefully warmer weather will help as I'm not a pill taker or getting injections for the bursitis. I leave my comfort up to The Lord.

Thought I would throw in the past week's Unconscious Mutterings meme. It's fun and all you do is answer with the first thought that comes to your mind for each question. Usually one word answers will do. Most of the time I answer tongue in cheek. :-)

I say ... and you think ...?

1. Frustration ~ Unusual For Me
2. Mistaken ~ Identity
3. Twirl ~ That Baton
4. Constipation ~ Hurts
5. Purple ~ Plum
6. Phone ~ Home
7. Frizz ~ Only On Humid Rainy Days
9. Sequel ~ So Many Nowadays
10. Ache ~ Yes For The Past 2 Weeks
11. Fat ~ Cat

Now hopefully you'll try either on your own blog or answer here in comments.

Today Is Earth Day

Every year on April 22, trees are planted, litter is cleaned up, and awareness for the issues plaguing the planet are raised. In honor of the holiday, now in its 49th year, I thought I would post 2 facts about Earth Day.

Children sweeping a city park in New York City on Earth Day, circa 1970s.

The first Earth Day marked a strange combination of boisterous rallies and sober reflection on the state of the planet. Protests, demonstrations, fundraisers, nature walks, speeches, concerts, and every sort of civic gathering imaginable took place at colleges, VFW halls, public squares, and parks across the United States on April 22, 1970. Environmental crusaders found themselves thrust into the limelight, and pop culture icons like poet Allen Ginsberg were asked to speak on behalf of Mother Earth. Some of the more colorful displays of the day included mock trials for polluting objects, like an old Chevrolet, which was sentenced to death by sledgehammer. (The car ultimately survived the beating and was donated to an art class.) In New York City, Earth Day celebrations effectively shut down parts of the city. Twenty thousand people packed into Union Square to see Paul Newman and hear a speech by Mayor John Lindsay, who arrived on an electric bus.

Students assemble a globe on the National Mall in Washington D.C. in 1995.

With bipartisan support in Congress and thousands of civic demonstrations across the country, support for environmental reform in 1970 was undeniable. According to the EPA, "Public opinion polls indicate that a permanent change in national priorities followed Earth Day 1970. When polled in May 1971, 25 percent of the U.S. public declared protecting the environment to be an important goal, a 2500 percent increase over 1969." The 1970s saw the passage of the most comprehensive environmental legislation in U.S. history, including the Clean Air Act, the Water Quality Improvement Act, the Endangered Species Act, the Toxic Substances Control Act, and the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act. In addition, just 8 months after the first Earth Day, Richard Nixon approved the creation of a new organization tasked with monitoring the nation’s natural assets: the Environmental Protection Agency.

Even my favorite Peanuts "kids" plant a tree on Earth Day :)

I leave you with my own quote, "Every day is Earth Day. Let us observe it as such."  Until next time dear friends have a day and weekend of blessings.

The beauty of birds. I just love them. Here's a bluejay and a humming bird. Whoever took these photos saw the beauty in them. I'm only sorry I didn't take the photos.

Wednesday's Poetry Day ~ A World Of Her Own

Here's a poem I wrote awhile ago and while looking to see what I should post for today's poetry, I thought of this one. Hope you enjoy it.

A World Of Her Own

Once there was a little child
Who lived in a world of her own
With a smile that truly beguiled
Yet subject to always be alone

In her guilded room she would stay
Filled with many delightful toys
And nary a friend to visit or play
Playing alone without any noise

When from a room came a new sound
Sounds of laughter filled the air
The little child soon turned around
And saw her daddy standing there

He smiled and in their room she found
Her mommy now holding a newborn child
Such happiness and not making a sound
Just giving a smile that truly beguiled

Never again in a world of her own
And never without a friend to play
And never subject to play all alone
Nor alone in her room would she stay.

Another Of My Movie Reviews

I didn't have a chance to see this film in the movies as it's hard for me to go to the theater anymore. After listening to my family who did go, tell me this movie was not to be missed. I bought the DVD and watched it last night and I was not disappointed. So here is another of my reviews of another movie.

Rating

The Greatest Showman:  Simply incredible! Don't believe what the critics say about this movie...It is magical. Hugh Jackman was made for this role and it shows how much fun he had playing Barnum  (Barnum never looked so good LOL!)  This is a musical and it delivers in every sense of the word. The songs and the cast singing them are all amazing. This movie grabs you in the way only a true musical can! you become invested in the characters from the first moment you meet each amazing individual. It's such a wonderful message with original music and spell binding choreography! And what's great is the whole family can enjoy it as it's rated PG. Remember this is a MOVIE not an biography of PT Barnum. It takes you away for two hours into a colorful and wonderful world, away from your everyday life. Kind of like the real circus used to. As the story progresses and you meet and understand the characters, it no longer becomes a circus musical but more about family--real and created. It's about following your dream--sometimes too far. And how everyone deserves to be loved and has a place in this world. Lots of wonderful messages that society today needs. This is one worth seeing and I can't say enough about this movie.

Wednesday's Poetry Day ~ This Wonder Before Me

After looking at the beautiful photos of the Florida beaches and oceans taken by my daughter, I suddenly got creative and along with one of her photos I wrote the poem you see below. While writing it I could almost picture myself there. Hope you enjoy reading it.

This Wonder Before Me

Oh what a day! Not a cloud in the sky
Sun is shining so brilliant and bright
Watching the gulls as upward they fly
As bare tingling feet in the sand walk by

The warmth of the sun now caresses my face
As the soothing ebb of the tide softly flows
A wonderous scene my soul does embrace
I slowly walk on, the sand tickling my toes

Yes what a great day this truly has been
This wonder before me is a scene to behold
And as the sun's warmth softly kisses my skin
I walk on embracing this day made of gold.

Here's the past week's Unconscious Mutterings meme. Haven't done one in a few weeks. It's fun and all you do is answer with the first thought that comes to your mind for each question. Usually one word answers will do. Most of the time I answer tongue in cheek. :-)

I say ... and you think ...?

1. Error ~ Sorry About That!
2. Kitty ~ Litter
3. Delay ~ The Meeting
4. Scale ~ On One To Ten
5. Calculation ~ Add It Up
6. System ~ Failure
7. Innovation ~ Something New
9. April ~ Fool
10. Comforter ~ Jesus is mine.
11. Frustrating ~ Sometimes This Meme Is! LOL!

Now hopefully you'll try either on your own blog or answer here in comments.
This afternoon I'll be walking over to my sister Louise'  (she lives on the other side of my apartment complex)  along with my other sister Phyllis for our weekly Monday card game. It's always a fun time. It doesn't matter who wins as it's just the joy of getting together. We spend more time laughing and remembering or trying to remember names, times, etc... I love it! So until next time dear friends, have a day of blessings.

My Latest Movie Review

It's been awhile since I did one of my movie reviews but thought after seeing this film which I highly recommend that I would post my review of the film without giving too much of the plot away.

Rating:

Goodbye Christopher Robin:  To Winnie the Pooh fans the script was not centered on the creation of Winnie the Pooh as it was centered on A.A. Milne's relationship to his son and Milne's post dramatic stress. The movie's ultimate theme is the effects of fame on the son Christopher Robin. It is a very thoughtful film, well written, acted, and filmed. I felt like I was actually watching the Milne family. The actor playing Christopher Milne was phenomenal and this was the first time he ever acted. This is NOT a Disney type film and not for people looking for an easy "feel good" family film, it's moody and sad and It captures the consequences of a terrible war, and the difficulties of social strata in England, the corruption of childhood, among many other things. BUT...It does not diminish my love for Pooh and his friends and my love for the hundred acre woods. It only has increased my empathy for this whole family, and their struggles. Again, this is a serious, imaginative and special film. I don't recommend it for very young children and as I said above and will say again, "This is NOT a Disney type film and not for people looking for an easy "feel good" family film. But it is a film worth seeing and I hope you do get to see it.
