Saturday 9: Back In The USA (1978)

Joining in on Saturday 9 for today.  I first saw this on Annie's blog last weekend and thought I would join in with this weeks:

SATURDAY 9: BACK IN THE USA (1978)
This song "Back In The USA" can be found on YouTube if you are not familiar with it.

1) This song lists seven cities -- New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, Chattanooga, Baton Rouge and St. Louis -- that Linda just loves. How many have you visited?  2: New York and Los Angeles and passed through Chattanooga.

2) The lyrics refer to hamburgers sizzling on the grill. What toppings do you believe make a perfect burger?  My choices are melted cheese and onions. I'm not one for ketchup or mustard.

3) The original recording of this song by Chuck Berry has always been one of Linda Ronstadt's favorites, one she used to enjoy singing along with in the car. What's the most recent song you sang?  Just this morning it was, "Ebb Tide".

4) Linda sang The National Anthem at Game 3 of the 1977 World Series. The New York Yankees won both that game and the series. How is your baseball team doing this season?  My Yankees are doing fine thank you!

Since this is our last Saturday 9 before Independence Day, let's ask some questions about the holiday.

5) During the Revolutionary War, General Washington celebrated the 4th of July by giving his troops a double ration of rum. Will you imbibe any spirits on Independence Day?  My strongest drink on any day/holiday is coffee.

6) The first man to sign the Declaration of Independence, John Hancock, said he wrote his name so large King George could see it, even without his glasses. Do you require glasses for reading?  Only when the words are micro small. I have 20-20 vision thanks to cataract surgeries.

7) Since July 4 is a federal holiday, banks are closed and there's no mail delivery. Thanks to email and ATMs, Sam finds going without those services isn't a hardship. What about you? Will you find it inconvenient that banks and the USPS are closed on July 4?  No, I rarely use an ATM and do my banking online.

8) The first 4th of July parade each year is held at 12:01 AM in Gatlinberg, TN. Will you attend a parade or fireworks to celebrate the 4th?  Again, no. I get to watch the town's firework display from my window.

9) More and more Americans celebrate our nation's holiday by eating foods from Italy and Germany. For the July 4, 2016 holiday, more than $50 million was spent on Italian sausage and bratwurst. What's on your 4th of July menu?  Whatever I'm in the mood for. If I have to choose it would probably be grilled sausage with peppers and onions on a sub.

Wednesday Poetry Day ~ A Silly Rhyme

This is what happens when you have too much free time on your hands. You end up with a silly mind thinking silly things and when your mind is in the habit of rhyming what you are thinking, then well... This is what happens..
A Silly Rhyme

Can it really be?
That this is me
Here by the sea
Peacefully free
Reading quietly

It's early morn
Right after dawn
Feeling newly born
Far from forlorn
Day's cares now gone

Tides now coming In
How long have I been?
Water sprays my skin
So, I must now begin
And with a sly grin

I must leave the shore
And get to the store
Go very fast before
They close the door
A silly rhyme for sure
That's it there is no more

I take my leave and bow
Good by to all for now....

The Simple Woman's Daybook {June Edition}

I'm joining in on Peggy's Simple Woman's Daybook meme again. The meme is now monthly and so I'll be posting it mostly on a Monday each month and not always the same Monday.
FOR TODAY
Outside my window... It's Sunday late afternoon and dreary with on again off again rain. Predicted thunderstorms never came to pass thank goodness!
I am thinking... and hoping this following week will be more productive for me as the past week was not my favorite with me spending it doing not much of anything because of back and legs pain. Feeling a little better and hopefully able to get out and about.
I am thankful... for the following:
One of my favorite things... is writing poetry and I've been very productive this month writing 5 new poems. I'll be posting them on Wednesdays. I've already posted a couple the past two Wednesdays.
I am creating... as the previous answer above says, more poetry and also some new pixel graphics for my blog.
I am wearing... an old loose top and jeans with sandals. No makeup or jewelry.
I am reading... not much of anything right now I'm sorry to say. I just haven't been in the mood. Hopefully I'll get over this laziness soon. I hate being this way.
I am hoping... to see my sisters later today to play cards. It's been a couple of weeks since we have gotten together.
I am learning... to say no to online shopping 😉 and went a whole week without ordering anything.
In my kitchen... the only thing going right now is my coffee heating in the microwave. I've even been too tired and lazy to cook. 😟
A Favorite Quote Of Mine... ""Retirement: World's longest coffee break. ðŸ˜„

Glittering Thoughts

I think I did this list a couple of years ago, but thought I would post it again anyway as it's been a truly quiet week for me. This one is about jewelry. Hope you join in and add your list in a comment or copy and paste to add on your blog.

1. If you could only have one piece of jewelry, what would it be?  I have two, my sleeping beauty X-shaped turquoise ring and and my Lord's Prayer silver band ring.

2. Do you prefer gold or silver?  White gold or 18k Italian yellow gold.

3. Do you wear a wedding band, or diamond and wedding band?  Haven't owned them since 1995.

4. Are your ears pierced? How old were you when you got them pierced?  Twice each ear, first time 49 years ago and the second holes 27 years ago. I now basically stay with earrings in the first original holes.

5. Are diamonds a girl’s best friend?  They haven't been mine 😊

6. Do you wear a watch all the time?  Whenever I leave the house.

7. Is there some piece of jewelry that you have dreamed of having?  Nope.

8. If you opened a treasure chest, would you prefer diamonds, rubies or gold?, why?  All three...why settle for less....😄

9. Do you wear earrings all the time, occasionally, or never?  All the time mostly large hoops.

10. What is the most expensive piece of jewelry you own?  My sleeping beauty X-shaped turquoise ring.

Friday Foto Friends ~ Grand Central

As a person who's crazy about trains and train stations, I just had to post these photos that were taken by famed photographer  Dan Heller  in New York City. He's a professional photographer who's photos look a lot like paintings. Here are three of his Grand Central Station in NYC photos. I love that station and his photos.

Wednesday's Poetry Day ~ The Sidewalk Cafe

A brand new poem written yesterday while sitting and letting my mind wander on a perfectly sunny day wishing I was able to walk and sit and have coffee at an outdoor cafe just watching the people passing by.

The Sidewalk Cafe

Taking a walk through the city streets
On this warm wonderful clear sky day
As a thought suddenly comes to me
To stop and sit at the sidewalk cafe

I sit and watch the people passing by
As they rush off to places need to be
I smile while slowly sipping my coffee
And wonder if and what they think of me

No other place can match where I now sit
The day is too pretty to rush and run
Or worry about where I should be today
Instead of enjoying my day in the sun

I smile and wave to other passerbys
On this perfectly warm blue sky day
Happy that I thought to come and stop
And sit at this wonderful sidewalk cafe.

Friday Foto Friends ~ Clermont State Historic Site

Today we'll take a trip to Clermont State Historic Site in Germantown, 5 1/2 miles down the road from me. It's actually in Clermont with a Germantown address. It was the Hudson River seat of New York's politically and socially prominent Livingston Family. Seven successive generations of the family left their imprint on the site's architecture, room interiors and landscape that sits by the Hudson River. Robert R. Livingston, Jr. was Clermont's most notable resident. His accomplishments include: drafting the Declaration of Independence, serving as first U.S. Minister of Foreign Affairs, administering the oath of office to George Washington, negotiating the Louisiana Purchase and developing steamboat technology with Robert Fulton. Today, Clermont appears much as it did in the early 20th century, when it was the home of the property's last two generations: Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Livingston and their daughters, Honoria and Janet. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1973, Clermont is also an anchor in the 1990 Hudson River National Landmark District.

Wednesday's Poetry Day ~ The American Flag

On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress passed an act establishing an official flag for the new nation. The resolution stated: “Resolved, that the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation." On Aug. 3, 1949, President Harry S. Truman officially declared June 14 as Flag Day.

And In Honor Of Flag Day Tomorrow, Here Is My Poem

Looking up and flying in the wind
In colors of red, white and blue
With my hand placed upon my heart
My pride flows from within for you

You stand for our country's freedom
You stand for lives and blood shed
To keep our country blessed and free
Proud here I stand, high I hold my head

So galantly you wave high above me now
Your stars and stripes of freedom fly
While silent prayer from within my soul
I honor those who with you fought and died

Yes! Looking up and flying in the wind
In colors of red, white and blue
With my hand placed upon my heart
My pride flows from within for you.
