Let's Teach The Children

Another tradition of mine is to remind the world that even "Santa Claus" knows the true meaning of Christmas and so I now post this special entry. Please take the time to read the whole post. Thank you.

Teach the children...

Late one Christmas Eve, I sank back, tired but content, into my easy chair. The kids were in bed, the gifts were wrapped, the milk and cookies waited by the fireplace for Santa. As I sat back admiring the tree with its decorations, I couldn't help feeling that something important was missing. It wasn't long before the tiny twinkling tree lights lulled me to sleep.

I don't know how long I slept, but all of a sudden I knew that I wasn't alone. I opened my eyes, and you can imagine my surprise when I saw Santa Claus himself sitting next to my Christmas tree. He was dressed all in fur from his head to his foot just as the poem described him, but he was not the "jolly old elf" of Christmas legend. The man who sat before me looked sad and disappointed, and there were tears in his eyes.

"Santa, what's wrong?" I asked, "Why are you crying?"  "It's the children," Santa replied sadly. "But Santa, the children love you," I said.

"Oh, I know they love me, and they love the gifts I bring them," Santa said, "but the children of today seem to have somehow missed out on the true spirit of Christmas. It's not their fault. It's just that the adults, many of them not having been taught themselves, have forgotten to teach the children."

"Teach them what?" I asked.

Santa's kind old face became soft, more gentle. His eyes began to shine with something more than tears. He spoke softly. "Teach the children the true meaning of Christmas. Teach them that the part of Christmas we can see, hear, and touch is much more than meets the eye. Teach them the symbolism behind the customs and traditions of Christmas which we now observe. Teach them what it is they truly represent."

Santa reached into his bag and pulled out a tiny Christmas tree and set it on my mantle. "Teach them about the Christmas tree. Green is the second color of Christmas. The stately evergreen, with its unchanging color, represents the hope of eternal life in Jesus. Its needles point heavenward as a reminder that mankind's thoughts should turn heavenward as well."

Santa reached into his bag again and pulled out a shiny star and placed it at the top of the small tree. "The star was the heavenly sign of promise. God promised a Savior for the world and the star was the sign of the fulfillment of that promise on the night that Jesus Christ was born. Teach the children that God always fulfills His promises, and that wise men still seek Him."

"Red," said Santa, "is the first color of Christmas." He pulled forth a red ornament for the tiny tree. "Red is deep, intense, vivid. It is the color of the life-giving blood that flows through our veins. It is the symbol of God's greatest gift. Teach the children that Christ gave His life and shed His blood for them that they might have eternal life. When they see the color red, it should remind them of that most wonderful Gift."

Santa found a silver bell in his pack and placed it on the tree. "Just as lost sheep are guided to safety by the sound of the bell, it continues to ring today for all to be guided to the fold. Teach the children to follow the true Shepherd, who gave His life for the sheep."

Santa placed a candle on the mantle and lit it. The soft glow from its one tiny flame brightened the room. "The glow of the candle represents how people can show their thanks for the gift of God's Son that Christmas Eve long ago. Teach the children to follow in Christ's foot steps... to go about doing good. Teach them to let their light so shine before people that all may see it and glorify God. This is what is symbolized when the twinkling lights shine on the tree like hundreds of bright, shining candles, each of them representing one of God's precious children, their light shining for all to see."

Again Santa reached into his bag and this time he brought forth a tiny red and white striped cane. As he hung it on the tree he spoke softly. "The candy cane is a stick of hard white candy: white to symbolize the virgin birth and sinless nature of Jesus, and hard to symbolize the Solid Rock the foundation of the church, and the firmness of God's promises. The candy cane is in the form of a 'J' to represent the precious name of Jesus, who came to earth. It also represents the Good Shepherd's crook, which He uses to reach down into the ditches of the world to lift out the fallen lambs who, like all sheep, have gone astray. The original candy cane had three small red stripes, which are the stripes of the scourging Jesus received by which we are healed, and a large red stripe that represents the shed blood of Jesus, so that we can have the promise of eternal life."

"Teach these things to the children."

Santa brought out a beautiful wreath made of fresh, fragrant greenery tied with a bright red bow. "The bow reminds us of the bond of perfection, which is love. The wreath embodies all the good things about Christmas for those with eyes to see and hearts to understand. It contains the colors of red and green and the heaven-turned needles of the evergreen. The bow tells the story of good will towards all and its color reminds us of Christ's sacrifice. Even its very shape is symbolic, representing eternity and the eternal nature of Christ's love. It is a circle, without beginning and without end. These are the things you must teach the children."

I asked, "But where does that leave you, Santa?"

The tears gone now from his eyes, a smile broke over Santa's face. "Why bless you, my dear," he laughed, "I'm only a symbol myself. I represent the spirit of family fun and the joy of giving and receiving. If the children are taught these other things, there is no danger that I'll ever be forgotten."

"I think I'm beginning to understand."

"That's why I came," said Santa. "You're an adult. If you don't teach the children these things, then who will?"

A Blast From The Past

Just to post on my blog I checked out my flash drive and decided on this for today. I took these 2 photos with my cellphone from my first floor apartment living room window years past and am posting them for you to see. It was the first snow fall of the season at the time 2 years ago, if I remember correctly. We ended up with 2 inches of snow when it was over. I faced the parking lot and as you can see a view of the rear of a Reformed Church. Without the parking lot it makes for lovely photos. My header photo was from last year from my living room window with the parking lot cut out of the photo.

Until the next time my dear family and friends, many blessings

And Now For Monday

Last night knocked me out. Here it is 3am and I woke up at 2am after finally falling asleep at around 11pm last night. Pain killers are my helper now. Anyway, here's an Unconscious Mutterings meme for this week. It's fun and all you do is answer with the first thought that comes to your mind for each question. Usually one word answers will do, although I usually add more. Most of the time I answer tongue in cheek. :-)

I say ... and you think ...?
1.  Boarded ~ Up
2.  System ~ Failure
3.  Favor ~ Needed Please!
4.  Sphere ~ World Globe
5.  Priorities ~ Please!
6.  Chips ~ And Dips
7.  Lighting ~ Strikes Twice :)
8.  Hopes ~ And Dreams
9.  Standing ~ Tall
10.  Interest ~ Peaked

Now you try either on your own blog or answer here in comments.

That's all I can think of right now and so until next time dear family and friends, have a day of blessings ahead.

Number One On My Bucket List

Tomorrow I was given a special treat from my two great nieces Winter and Eva who found out that one of my things on my bucket list was to see a Broadway show of "THE NUTCRACKER' as I have never seen it on stage. They got in touch with their father a lawyer, who has the owner of Proctor's Theater in Schenectady as a client. The owner proceeded to send me 7 tickets to tomorrow's 2 pm showing along with a beautiful card and personal letter. My 2 sister's, 2 nieces and great nieces Winter and Eva will accompany me. I will be transported in a medical transport in my wheelchair and be seated right up front in the handicap section with my family all around me. I am so thrilled and excited to go.

Making its annual return to the Main Stage is everyone’s favorite holiday ballet. Enter a world of Christmas dreams to the joyous music of Tchaikovsky in this annual year-end favorite. Join the Sugar Plum Fairy, the heroic Nutcracker Prince and the evil Rat King in this whimsical celebration of the season.
Joining the 2019 Northeast Ballet production are New York City Ballet principal dancers: Lauren Lovette and Taylor Stanley.
here is the latest video from their website that you must see.

Until the next time dear family and friends, I wish you many blessings.

Radio City Music Hall's Christmas Spectacular’s ‘Sleigh Ride’

Photos Taken from Radio City Music Hall's website:

The Christmas Spectacular unfolds in a snowy, magical Northern Forest as the Rockettes are revealed as Santa’s reindeer, eager to make that special flight to Radio City Music Hall.

The dazzling number starts with all 36 Rockettes lowered onto elevators beneath the stage: “When the elevators rise, there’s fog all over, you hear wind, then the music joins in,” says Stage Manager Joseph O. “Then the Rockettes come alive and start dancing. It’s quite magical.”

My Morning Hug

Today I'm sitting in the early morning with everything quiet and just finished a cup of coffee here in my room in Pinehaven Home in Philmont. So, with this picture in mind I thought I would post one of my poems which happens to fit right in. 😉

My Morning Hug

Sitting here with coffee in hand
In the early morning light
Thinking where today I stand
And what will be in my sight

I contemplate on my things to do
And where I should start the day
I think that things are very few
So not much seems to be in play

Vacuum and dusting not on the list
Two chores I'm really not crazy about
Here where I am they don't exist
And so for today I'll cross them out

So now I'll just enjoy and drink
The coffee calling in my mug
And just relax and do not think
And give myself a morning hug.

I'll probably spend the rest of the day looking at all the goodies my children took from my old Germantown apartment and decorated my room here with photos, Nativity, etc. My room now looks like my livable home. The staff here in hospice and the home staff are wonderful and loving. I couldn't ask for a better place to be before going home to Our Lord. Thank You Jesus!!!

Until next time dear family and friends have a day of blessings.

The Rockefeller Tree

Well before the annual Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting, in-the-know New Yorkers gather on the plaza each year for the tree raising. Taking place on Saturday, November 9, this little known event was truly a sight to behold as the mammoth Norway Spruce was driven onto the plaza around 7:30am, and then carefully untied and craned into its new home on the Center Plaza.

The 2019 tree will be lit for the first time on Wednesday, December 4 on Rockefeller Plaza. Each year, thousands crowd the sidewalks for the event and millions watch the live broadcast. The tree will remain lit and on display on the plaza between West 48th and 51st Streets and Fifth and Sixth Avenues through Friday, January 17, 2020.

  • November 9: The Tree arrives on Rockefeller Plaza.
  • November 13: The Swarovski star will be raised onto the Tree.
  • December 4: The Tree will be lit for the first time on Rockefeller Plaza.
  • December 25: On Christmas day, the lights shine for a full 24 hours.
  • December 31: On New Year’s Eve, visiting hours are from 6am-9pm.

For the thirteenth consecutive year, the 2019 Christmas Tree will be donated to Habitat for Humanity. Once the holidays have passed and crowds have dispersed, the tree comes down and is milled, treated and made into lumber that is used for home building. Each year, the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree continues to be a symbol of hope, and inspired the children’s book, “The Carpenter’s Gift,” written by David Rubel and illustrated by Jim LaMarche in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity.

Until The Next Time Dear Family And Friends, Many Blessings

Christmas Traditions

It's been awhile since I posted a meme list and this being the holiday season I thought I would post a Christmas meme list so here goes.. "What do you think of when you think of “Christmas?” Using the word “Christmas,” list one thing you think of per letter.

C- Christ Child
H- Holidays
R- Relatives Visiting
I- Ideas For Gifts
S- Sending Out Cards
T- Trimming The Tree
M- Manger For Nativity Scene
A- Angel For Tree Top
S- Seasons Greetings

Another tradition of mine is to remind the world that even "Santa Claus" knows the true meaning of Christmas and so each Christmas Season I also post this special entry.

Santa's Christmas Eve Prayer

The sleigh was all packed, The reindeer were fed,
But Santa still knelt By the side of the bed.

"Dear Father," he prayed, "Be with me tonight,
There's much work to do, And my schedule is tight."

"I must jump in my sleigh And streak through the sky,
Knowing full well That a reindeer can't fly."

"I will visit each household, Before the first light,
I'll cover the world, And all in one night."

"With sleigh bells a-ringing, I'll land on each roof,
Amid the soft clatter Of each little hoof."

"To get in the house Is the difficult part,
So I'll slide down the chimney Of each child's heart."

"My sack will hold toys To grant all their wishes,
The supply will be endless, Like the loaves and the fishes."

"I will fill all the stockings And not leave a track,
I'll eat every cookie That is left for my snack."

"I can do all these things Lord, Only through You,
I just need your blessing, Then it's easy to do."

"All this is to honor The birth of the One,
That was sent to redeem us ... Your most Holy Son."

"So to all of my friends, Least Your glory I rob,
Please Lord, remind them Who gave me this job."

Blessings Of Thanksgiving

Well my friends, tomorrow is the Thanksgiving holiday and in honor of tomorrow my poem and a special card for you from me. May your holiday be blessed and spent with family and friends.

Thanksgiving Day

Another year has come and gone
The turkey won't be here for long
The guests arrived and in their seat
With fork and knife now ready to eat

The carving soon awaits the knife
Poor turkey had a very short life
Cooked and stuffed a special way
For all to enjoy Thanksgiving day

The prayers and thanks already said
Please pass the gravy and the bread
Now don't forget that apple cider
Everything looks so much brighter

Yes, another year has passed away
And on this happy Thanksgiving day
Where family and friends get together
With food and love for one another.

18th Annual Holiday Train Show

November 21, 2019 – February 23, 2020
Every holiday season, the New York Transit Museum’s Grand Central Gallery plays host to a city within a city with the display of a miniature electric railroad running over, through, and beneath some of New York’s most magnificent landmarks. Celebrating its 18th year of operation, this beloved annual holiday exhibit features model trains traveling along a 34’ long, two-level, “O” gauge model train layout. This year’s exhibit is set against a mural designed by cartoonist Julia Wertz. Departing from a miniature replica of Grand Central Terminal, the Transit Museum’s collection of Lionel trains including Metro-North, Polar Express, and vintage subway train sets will dazzle the eyes of children and adults alike as they make their way past New York landmarks and on to the North Pole!

Hope you enjoyed seeing the last two photos of past shows, I know I did.😊 And now it's my time to "take the subway train back home." Have a day of blessings dear family and friends.

The Lonely Road

I thought I would do an old Creative Adventures Meme of mine. It's always fun seeing how a story adventure can be created with just 4 fill in the blanks questions.

The Lonely Road

1.   You are driving down a lonely road at night when in front of you, you see - what looks like a shadowy figure running in front of your car.

2.   You stop the car and get out to - carefully see who or what it could be. Not seeing anything you think to yourself, "maybe it was just me tired" and maybe you thought you saw the shadow.

3.   All of a sudden In the background you hear - a dog barking and yet see nothing and nobody near your car. You also check to make sure the dog or any other animal aren't hurt and laying under the car. Thank goodness there wasn't and you are truly relieved and get back in the car.

4.   You then start your car and - since everything seems okay and hopefully the dog is probably on its way back home by now as the barking stopped, you quickly drive on shaken up a little and continue on down the dark country road into the night and praying you get home soon with no other problem.

Until the next time dear family and friends have a day of blessings
