Please take the time to read the whole post. Thank you.
Teach the children...

Late one Christmas Eve, I sank back, tired but content, into my easy chair. The kids were in bed, the gifts were wrapped, the milk and cookies waited by the fireplace for Santa. As I sat back admiring the tree with its decorations, I couldn't help feeling that something important was missing. It wasn't long before the tiny twinkling tree lights lulled me to sleep.

I don't know how long I slept, but all of a sudden I knew that I wasn't alone. I opened my eyes, and you can imagine my surprise when I saw Santa Claus himself sitting next to my Christmas tree. He was dressed all in fur from his head to his foot just as the poem described him, but he was not the "jolly old elf" of Christmas legend. The man who sat before me looked sad and disappointed, and there were tears in his eyes.

"Santa, what's wrong?" I asked, "Why are you crying?" "It's the children," Santa replied sadly. "But Santa, the children love you," I said.

"Oh, I know they love me, and they love the gifts I bring them," Santa said, "but the children of today seem to have somehow missed out on the true spirit of Christmas. It's not their fault. It's just that the adults, many of them not having been taught themselves, have forgotten to teach the children."

"Teach them what?" I asked.

Santa's kind old face became soft, more gentle. His eyes began to shine with something more than tears. He spoke softly. "Teach the children the true meaning of Christmas. Teach them that the part of Christmas we can see, hear, and touch is much more than meets the eye. Teach them the symbolism behind the customs and traditions of Christmas which we now observe. Teach them what it is they truly represent."

Santa reached into his bag and pulled out a tiny Christmas tree and set it on my mantle. "Teach them about the Christmas tree. Green is the second color of Christmas. The stately evergreen, with its unchanging color, represents the hope of eternal life in Jesus. Its needles point heavenward as a reminder that mankind's thoughts should turn heavenward as well."

Santa reached into his bag again and pulled out a shiny star and placed it at the top of the small tree. "The star was the heavenly sign of promise. God promised a Savior for the world and the star was the sign of the fulfillment of that promise on the night that Jesus Christ was born. Teach the children that God always fulfills His promises, and that wise men still seek Him."

"Red," said Santa, "is the first color of Christmas." He pulled forth a red ornament for the tiny tree. "Red is deep, intense, vivid. It is the color of the life-giving blood that flows through our veins. It is the symbol of God's greatest gift. Teach the children that Christ gave His life and shed His blood for them that they might have eternal life. When they see the color red, it should remind them of that most wonderful Gift."

Santa found a silver bell in his pack and placed it on the tree. "Just as lost sheep are guided to safety by the sound of the bell, it continues to ring today for all to be guided to the fold. Teach the children to follow the true Shepherd, who gave His life for the sheep."

Santa placed a candle on the mantle and lit it. The soft glow from its one tiny flame brightened the room. "The glow of the candle represents how people can show their thanks for the gift of God's Son that Christmas Eve long ago. Teach the children to follow in Christ's foot steps... to go about doing good. Teach them to let their light so shine before people that all may see it and glorify God. This is what is symbolized when the twinkling lights shine on the tree like hundreds of bright, shining candles, each of them representing one of God's precious children, their light shining for all to see."

Again Santa reached into his bag and this time he brought forth a tiny red and white striped cane. As he hung it on the tree he spoke softly. "The candy cane is a stick of hard white candy: white to symbolize the virgin birth and sinless nature of Jesus, and hard to symbolize the Solid Rock the foundation of the church, and the firmness of God's promises. The candy cane is in the form of a 'J' to represent the precious name of Jesus, who came to earth. It also represents the Good Shepherd's crook, which He uses to reach down into the ditches of the world to lift out the fallen lambs who, like all sheep, have gone astray. The original candy cane had three small red stripes, which are the stripes of the scourging Jesus received by which we are healed, and a large red stripe that represents the shed blood of Jesus, so that we can have the promise of eternal life."

"Teach these things to the children."

Santa brought out a beautiful wreath made of fresh, fragrant greenery tied with a bright red bow. "The bow reminds us of the bond of perfection, which is love. The wreath embodies all the good things about Christmas for those with eyes to see and hearts to understand. It contains the colors of red and green and the heaven-turned needles of the evergreen. The bow tells the story of good will towards all and its color reminds us of Christ's sacrifice. Even its very shape is symbolic, representing eternity and the eternal nature of Christ's love. It is a circle, without beginning and without end. These are the things you must teach the children."

I asked, "But where does that leave you, Santa?"

The tears gone now from his eyes, a smile broke over Santa's face. "Why bless you, my dear," he laughed, "I'm only a symbol myself. I represent the spirit of family fun and the joy of giving and receiving. If the children are taught these other things, there is no danger that I'll ever be forgotten."

"I think I'm beginning to understand."

"That's why I came," said Santa. "You're an adult. If you don't teach the children these things, then who will?"
I took these 2 photos with my cellphone from my first floor apartment living room window years past and am posting them for you to see. It was the first snow fall of the season at the time 2 years ago, if I remember correctly. We ended up with 2 inches of snow when it was over. I faced the parking lot and as you can see a view of the rear of a Reformed Church. Without the parking lot it makes for lovely photos. My header photo was from last year from my living room window with the parking lot cut out of the photo.
The dazzling number starts with all 36 Rockettes lowered onto elevators beneath the stage: “When the elevators rise, there’s fog all over, you hear wind, then the music joins in,” says Stage Manager Joseph O. “Then the Rockettes come alive and start dancing. It’s quite magical.”

Throughout the number, the Rockettes slowly make their way downstage towards the audience in preparation for Santa’s arrival. “He’s pushed on stage by a prop person when he first makes his entrance,” says Stage Manager Caskey H. “But when he leaves the stage, that is Rockette power pulling Santa.”

As the Rockettes pull Santa off the stage in ‘Sleigh Ride’, they have one final surprise for the audience. “The [Rockettes] all have buttons that are sewn into their costumes,” explains Caseky. “In the final beats of the song they press the button and the antlers light up and sparkle. That’s always a fun little surprise for the audience.”
So, with this picture in mind I thought I would post one of my poems which happens to fit right in. 😉

My Morning Hug

Sitting here with coffee in hand
In the early morning light
Thinking where today I stand
And what will be in my sight

I contemplate on my things to do
And where I should start the day
I think that things are very few
So not much seems to be in play

Vacuum and dusting not on the list
Two chores I'm really not crazy about
Here where I am they don't exist
And so for today I'll cross them out

So now I'll just enjoy and drink
The coffee calling in my mug
And just relax and do not think
And give myself a morning hug.

The sleigh was all packed, The reindeer were fed,
But Santa still knelt By the side of the bed.

"Dear Father," he prayed, "Be with me tonight,
There's much work to do, And my schedule is tight."

"I must jump in my sleigh And streak through the sky,
Knowing full well That a reindeer can't fly."

"I will visit each household, Before the first light,
I'll cover the world, And all in one night."

"With sleigh bells a-ringing, I'll land on each roof,
Amid the soft clatter Of each little hoof."

"To get in the house Is the difficult part,
So I'll slide down the chimney Of each child's heart."

"My sack will hold toys To grant all their wishes,
The supply will be endless, Like the loaves and the fishes."

"I will fill all the stockings And not leave a track,
I'll eat every cookie That is left for my snack."

"I can do all these things Lord, Only through You,
I just need your blessing, Then it's easy to do."

"All this is to honor The birth of the One,
That was sent to redeem us ... Your most Holy Son."

"So to all of my friends, Least Your glory I rob,
Please Lord, remind them Who gave me this job."
May your holiday be blessed and spent with family and friends.

Thanksgiving Day

Another year has come and gone
The turkey won't be here for long
The guests arrived and in their seat
With fork and knife now ready to eat

The carving soon awaits the knife
Poor turkey had a very short life
Cooked and stuffed a special way
For all to enjoy Thanksgiving day

The prayers and thanks already said
Please pass the gravy and the bread
Now don't forget that apple cider
Everything looks so much brighter

Yes, another year has passed away
And on this happy Thanksgiving day
Where family and friends get together
1. While on a Caribbean cruise this past summer, I took the elevator to get to my room. Accidently pressing the wrong button, the elevator doors closes than opens and I found myself -

Every holiday season, the New York Transit Museum’s Grand Central Gallery plays host to a city within a city with the display of a miniature electric railroad running over, through, and beneath some of New York’s most magnificent landmarks. Celebrating its 18th year of operation, this beloved annual holiday exhibit features model trains traveling along a 34’ long, two-level, “O” gauge model train layout. This year’s exhibit is set against a mural designed by cartoonist Julia Wertz. Departing from a miniature replica of Grand Central Terminal, the Transit Museum’s collection of Lionel trains including Metro-North, Polar Express, and vintage subway train sets will dazzle the eyes of children and adults alike as they make their way past New York landmarks and on to the North Pole!

2. You stop the car and get out to - carefully see who or what it could be. Not seeing anything you think to yourself, "maybe it was just me tired" and maybe you thought you saw the shadow.

3. All of a sudden In the background you hear - a dog barking and yet see nothing and nobody near your car. You also check to make sure the dog or any other animal aren't hurt and laying under the car. Thank goodness there wasn't and you are truly relieved and get back in the car.

4. You then start your car and - since everything seems okay and hopefully the dog is probably on its way back home by now as the barking stopped, you quickly drive on shaken up a little and continue on down the dark country road into the night and praying you get home soon with no other problem.
My Wishes For You

I wish for you the warmth of the sun
I wish for you peace when day is done
I wish for you the joys of life
I wish for you freedom from strife
I wish for you twinkling stars at night
I wish for you they always shine bright
I wish for you no ailing days
I wish for you no moody ways
I wish for you a childlike curiosity
I wish for you through their eyes to see
I wish for you true friends galore
I wish for you to always meet more
I wish for you a close family's love
I wish for you a faith from above

These are my wishes for you my friend
And of course I wish they'll never end.
It's fun and all you do is answer with the first thought that comes to your mind for each question. Usually one word answers will do. Most of the time I answer tongue in cheek. :-)
I am thinking... how fast this year has gone and only one more month to 2020 and hopefully I get to see it.

I am thankful... For getting up and being granted another day on this earth thanks to The Lord.

One of my favorite things... right now is getting in the mood for our Family Thanksgiving dinner. (my ex) Who is going through health problems of his own.

I am creating... right now very little as I'm ahead of myself on graphics and poems.

I am wearing... mostly loose clothing and a robe at night.

I am reading... Not anything special right now.

I am hoping... the reading bug hits me again soon.

I am learning... that I can still enjoy the little things in life. 😇

A Favorite Quote Of Mine... ""God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know it's me.
The Homecoming

Watching nervously down the road
They stare and anxiously await
It's been a year and lonely time
Hoping the bus will not be late

The wife is dressed in Sunday best
The children shine from head to toe
Nothing coming yet, no bus in sight
And time to her seems moving slow

Then in the distance now they see
The bus is coming toward them all
No more waiting or lonely times
He stands before them proud and tall

His wife and children kept him going
From horrors he has seen that year
Now here they are lovingly before him
Their tears of joy and love so clear

The hero soldier has now come home
To wife and children home to stay
Much hugging, crying, laughter too
A lonely year of waiting gone away.
Kenny Loggins
Saturday 9:Heart to Heart (1982)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it Here.

1) With whom did you most recently have a "heart-to-heart" talk?

My immediately Family.

2) When this song was on the charts, audiences were tuning in to a TV show called Hart to Hart. Are you familiar with it?

Yes, it was a favorite of mine.

3) In the music video, Kenny Loggins plays an illustrator. It’s said that the hardest thing to draw is a straight line, because all the joints in your hand have to work together in sync. Can you draw a straight line, without the aid of a ruler or a straight edge?

When I was younger and arthritis didn't hit my fingers.

4) This video also prominently features teddy bears. A 2018 article in the NY Post estimates that 4 in 10 adults has a plush toy of his/her own. Are you one of the 40%?

Yes I am 😉

5) Kenny Loggins performed in a tribute to Aretha Franklin at Carnegie Hall. Do you have a favorite Aretha Franklin song?

I loved everything she sang.

6) Kenny co wrote this song with Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers. You can also hear Michael on the background vocals. Do you have a favorite Doobie Brothers song?

No I don't even remember one of their songs..

7) The third co writer is David Foster. 1982 was a big year for Foster, since Chicago had a big hit with another of his compositions, “Hard to Say I’m Sorry.” Do you have a favorite Chicago song?

I liked Chicago but I don't remember any favorites.

8) In 1982, when this song was popular, Tylenol capsules laced with cyanide killed 7 people in Chicago. In response, tamper-proof packaging was introduced. What’s the last thing you opened that required you break a seal?

My printer inks.

9) Random question – You’re having a party. Which guest annoys you most: the one who arrives 20 minutes early, or the one who shows up 20 minutes late?

The early ones so I can put them to work helping me.. 😇

I miss the warm full colors of October. Here are November photos from past Autumns in November years taken from my collection. The middle one is the Hudson River with the Catskills in the background. I don't remember which park the first is from but the last was taken around the neighborhood.

.Ingredients:

1 box, spice cake mix
1 cup pumpkin puree
1 cup water
3 eggs
1/2 cup vegetable oil
3/4 cup caramel ice cream topping, divided
1 (8oz) pkg. cream cheese, room temperature
2 tbsp milk
1 cup powdered sugar
1 1/2 cups whipped topping (Cool Whip)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9 x 13 pan with cooking spray.

In a bowl, add the cake mix, water, eggs and vegetable oil. Add in the pumpkin puree and then mix with a hand mixer. Pour it into you 9 x 13 pan and bake for 35 to 45 minutes. When you pull the cake out of the oven and while it is still warm, poke holes into it using the end of a wooden spoon. Put 1/2 cup of caramel sauce into a microwave safe bowl and heat it up for 20-40 seconds so it will pour easier. Pour over the entire cake, making sure it gets into the holes.

While your cake is cooling, you can prepare your cream cheese frosting. In a bowl add your cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk and mix until smooth. Then add in the whipped topping and fold it into the cream cheese. Spread the icing over the cake, filling the holes until it's smooth.

Warm up another the rest of the caramel sauce and drizzle over the cake. You can use a toothpick if you want a more decorative effect. It's the perfect dessert for the fall season.
Firsts...

1. When you looked at yourself in the mirror today, what was the first thing you thought? Who is that old lady starring back at me?? I don't remember inviting her here..😮

2. Where did you go on the very first vacation of your life? I'm 81 do you think I would remember that?? Nine times out of ten it was to visit a relative of the family in another state.

3. Open the door of your refrigerator. What is the first thing you see? Milk, water in bottles, and food.

4. If you had wings to fly about the universe, where is the first place you’d land? Too many beautiful places here in our world but as long as it's Autumn so I can see the world's true beauty without having to see what's beneath all that beauty.

5. What is the first thing you do when you get in your car? Couldn't tell you as I don't drive anymore. 😉

6. What is the first thing you ever said to your firstborn? "I am blessed, she is beautiful. Thank you Lord."

7. What is the first tangible thing you lost that you could never find again? If I remember correctly I was 14 and went shopping with my Mom on the subway to 14th street a well known area in the Bronx for fashions and bought my first grown up outfit for Easter. I got to buy a beautiful big picture hat (they were very popular at that time). Coming home I was so excited to show my outfit off and realized my beautiful hat was missing. I never found it and cried for a whole week. I don't remember if it was ever replaced.

8. Who is your favorite First Lady of all time? Hmmmm.. Being around since FDR I never had a favorite First Lady that I admired more than others. I do have one that was far from an admired First Lady and she was married to Clinton.

9. Post a link to your first blog post. If I read this question right there is no way I would remember my first blog post as that was in early 1995 and it was known as websites then. Or if I read it again I would post a "Hello All" "I'm so excited to have my own website" kind of post.

10. Can you explain what a first down is in football? It's the first of a series of usually four downs in which a football team must net a 10-yard gain to retain possession of the ball. A gain of a total of 10 or more yards within usually four downs giving the team the right to start a new series of downs. Not that I really knew this being a baseball fan. This is the answer I found on Google. 😃
This is the fifth 2019 Fall Foliage Report for New York State. Reports are obtained from volunteer field observers and reflect expected color conditions for the coming weekend. Fall Foliage Reports are issued every Wednesday afternoon. Gorgeous peak foliage will be arriving in the Chautauqua-Allegheny region this weekend, while brilliant peak colors continue to thrive in areas of the Adirondacks and Catskills, according to volunteer observers from the Empire State Development Division of Tourism’s I LOVE NY program.
Autumn This Or That

1. Pumpkin Carving or Apple Picking? I couldn't pick just one. If I was able to I would do both.

2. Yankee Candles or Roaring Fireplace? I love Yankee Candles but I would prefer a warm inviting Roaring Fireplace sitting in front of it with my feet up and a cup of coffee in my hand and a book in the other hand. What's better than that??

3. Hot Chocolate or Apple Cider? As much as I love both, my pick would be Hot Chocolate with a dab of vanilla ice cream on top. Mmmmm, I can taste it now.

4. Pumpkin Pie or Apple Pie? Both, I could never choose just one of these delicious pies. I've been known to have a piece of both during Thanksgiving. Yummy!!
