Sitting on the dock on a warm summer's day
Soaking in the sun as I slowly close my eyes
I lower my feet in the cool water of the bay
Not a worry do I have, not a word I need say
Silently watching the sparkling sunlight
On the slow rippling moving water below
my feet swirl and dance to the bay's music
My mind seems to hear it softly and low
Peace and joy surround me this wonderful day
As I sit on the dock quietly resting my eyes
I feel the warmth of the sun on the water below
Not a worry do I have, not a word I need say.

Some Trivia
In case you don't remember the song, here is a video from YouTube. Otis Redding died 3 days after recording this song 50 years ago in a plane crash. There were never any lyrics at the end. He was supposed to ad-lib at the end, but couldn't think of anything. So he just whistled, and that added to the mystique of the song.

Thank you and same to you dear Cindy. 💜
DeleteHe had a sad ending. I guess he felt much of what your poem describes as he looked out on the bay.
ReplyDeleteI know I can relate very well. You capture so much in your words.
