Saturday 9 ~ It Must Be Him ~ Vikki Carr

Being it's Saturday I'm joining in on  *Saturday 9*  for today. Hope You join in too. It's a fun meme.

Saturday 9: It Must Be Him (1967)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it ~
Here

1) This song is about a woman waiting impatiently for a phone call. Do you consider yourself patient?  No I'm really not patient as my family tells me although I thought I was. 😊

2)Other women (most notably Shirley Bassey and Dottie West) have recorded this song. Harry James and Doc Severinson did instrumental versions. But there's no record of a male singing "Oh dear God! It must be her! Or I shall die!" Do you think that's because waiting for the phone to ring is more "a chick thing," and men simply don't do it?  Possibly... I can't speak for any man but I do agree it is "a chick thing".

3) This recording enjoyed a sudden surge of popularity after 20 years when it was included on the soundtrack of Moonstruck, the 1987 film that won Cher an Oscar. Have you seen Moonstruck?  Many, many times. I have the DVD and watch it every so often. It is a favorite of mine.

4) This week's featured artist, Vikki Carr, was born in El Paso, TX. El Paso can proudly proclaim itself one of America's safest cities. What can your hometown be proud of?"  Well being born in the Bronx I can honestly say it's famous for many things but to me it's famous for Yankee Stadium and the NY Yankees. As for now that I live in upstate NY in the small township of Germantown, Columbia County. I'm proud of the fact that it is a beautiful quiet country and farm area across from the Catskill Mountains near the Hudson River.

5) She was a staple on Jerry Lewis' Labor Day Telethon, raising funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association by performing this song. Is your TV on right now? If so, what are you watching?  I'm watching two shows from last night, Latest of the series Hawaii 5-0 and Blue Bloods. Having Roku I can watch shows live or the next day through Hulu Advanced and most without a lot of commercials.

6)In 1971, Vikki fulfilled a dream of hers by establishing the Vikki Carr Scholarship Foundation. Every year the foundation awards Hispanic American students money to use toward higher education. She says it's her way of returning "the support and encouragement she received from others" early in her career. If you could establish a charitable foundation, what cause would you like it to benefit?.  Any foundation that benefits children and military veterans.

7) In 1967, when this song was popular, Dr. Christiaan Barnard performed the first heart transplant. Today, one of the most common surgeries performed in the United States is the coronary artery bypass surgery. Have you had any surgeries??  No not really only cataract implants and that was same day in a clinic. So far, so good. I have never spent time in a hospital for myself. Thank The Lord.

8) Also in 1967, the RMS Queen Mary was retired after 31 years of service. Have you ever traveled by cruise ship?  Yes, in 2006 with my brother, his wife and my sister Phyllis who treated me to the cruise. We went from San Diego to the Mexican Riviera for a week at sea. I loved it.

9) Random question: Who is your oldest living relative?  Right now It's my Uncle, my mother's youngest brother who is only 5-6 years older than me. We grew up together and I was his maid of honor when he married. That's me, second from the left in 1955 at the age of almost 18.  I was a redhead at the time. I think I had every hair color you can think of but my natural was what they called "dirty" blonde. 😄

  2. I'm a naturally dirty blonde who was a redhead for decades! Maybe it just works with our coloring.

  3. I haven't gotten into "Blue Bloods" yet...I think I'll just wait and one day start from the beginning on Netflix.
Love the wedding picture! Everyone looks so elegant. Today's weddings don't seem to capture that. And you were a beautiful bridesmaid!
