Sitting at the beach taking in the sun
and watching families near the shore
Kids chasing each other and having fun
splashing, laughing begging for more
How wonderful the summer days are
when families spend days together
Playing in the sand by the seashore
and enjoying the summer weather
Not a cloud in the bright blue sky
nor call for rain or thunderstorm
I watch the seagulls flying on by
the soft breeze is slightly warm
So fast this day now passes on by
and the families now get ready to go
They pass me waving a friendly goodbye
as the sky turns to an evening glow
I too now dress and get ready to go
folding my chair I turn once more
And see the seagulls circling slow
I watch as waves now kiss the shore
How wonderful the summer days are
when families spend days together
Playing in the sand by the seashore
just enjoying the summer weather

I remember many happy days spent at the beach with my family when I was a child. We packed up a picnic lunch and spent the day in the sun and surf. I would come home sunburned and very cranky tired, but it was always such a fun day. I still am amazed at how my mother was able to prepare our picnic lunch early in the morning before we drove over an hour to the beach. We didn't have "fast food" places in those days, and she went all out with potato salad, chicken, etc. It was always SO good! Thank you for your wonderful poem. It brought back such happy memories for me.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to it too.
