Saturday 9: I'm Moving On

Being it's Saturday I'm joining in on  *Saturday 9*  for today. Hope You join in too. It's a fun meme.

Chyvonne Scott
I'm Moving On (1965)

Unfamiliar with Chyvonne Scott's rendition of this week's tune? Hear it Here

1) In this song, Chyvonne Scott sings that she's sick of her lover's "conniving." Tell us about a time you felt deceived. (It doesn't have to involve romance.)

Who remembers and who would want to. 😊

2) She realizes it's time to move on to another love. What's your favorite love song? Is it about a relationship that's running smoothly? Or is it like "I'm Moving On," about an unhappy love affair?

I don't really have a favorite love song anymore. As a teenager I loved The Platter's rendition of "My Prayer".

3) Though Chyvonne Scott enjoyed only limited success as a recording artist, she was very popular in New York clubs. When did you most recently listen to music performed live?

Wow I haven't seen a live performance since 2006 when I was in California staying with my brother & SIL and it was an Italian opera singer. I don't even remember his name. 😄

4) In 2017, this song appeared on a Samsung commercial that poked fun at rival iPhone. Is your cell phone an Apple or Android? How did you choose your phone?

My phone is an Android. Right now it's a Motorola but I prefer an LG or a Samsung.

5) Chyvonne is an unusual name. In 1965, when this song was first released, the most popular baby names in the US were Michael and Lisa. Do you have any Michaels or Lisas in your life?

No, but I do have a nephew named Michael.

6) Also in 1965, Winston Churchill died. In researching this week's Sat. 9, Sam discovered a Churchill quote that's new to her: "I am always ready to learn although I do not always like being taught." Share something interesting that you recently learned.

Don't laugh, but I recently learned that the beautiful Hibiscus flower comes in many colors beside red.  (I said don't laugh 😜)

7) In 1965, one of the most successful movies ever made, The Sound of Music, was released. Have you ever seen it?

I can't count how many times I've seen it after seeing the original in the theater.

8) Lava lamps were already popular in England and Brussels, but in 1965 they were introduced in the US. Do you think lava lamps are cool?

I could take them or leave them. I never had one when they were popular.

9) Random question -- You have to buy something very personal that you find embarrassing. Would you rather pay cash for it, so your identity would be unknown but you'd have to face the cashier? Or order it online, where you could avoid looking anyone in the eye, but you have to share your name and address?

I only shop online and at my age nothing embarrasses me anymore.

Until the next time dear family and friends, be blessed

  1. Interesting to read your answers Toni. I'll join in with you and just post my answers here. 1) Not sure but like Toni I wouldn't want to remember. I try to focus on good things. 2) Favorite songs or favourite love songs are always difficult because most songs I like, I love. For now I'll choose "Perfect" as sung by Ed Sheeran and Andrea Boccelli. Their voices blend beautifully and I love Andrea Boccelli singing almost anything. 3) The last live performance I heard was last weekend at the Hillsong United concert. It was beautiful. 4)My phone is Android and I selected it with help of my brother who I always ask for help in saving money on mobile phone plans and phones. Canada is one of the most expensive countries in the world for such things. I buy my phones outright so the cost is not added to the monthly bill. 5) I don't currently have any Michael's or Lisa's in my life and have never known a Lisa. 6) I recently learned the Swahili phrase "nawa pia" which means "you too". 7) I've seen The Sound of Music several times on television and I always enjoy it. 8) I've seen lava lamps in person, on TV and in photos. rightly or wrongly, I associate them with hippie lifestyle of the 60s and 70s. I've never owned one and doubt they would go with my decor. 9) Very little embarrasses me anymore so I would buy the item in whichever way was most convenient.

  2. Oh, I loved the times we went to Chincoteague and the hibiscus were blooming out in the marshes. There were several colors and the blooms were so big! I wanted to dig a few up and bring them home, but figured I'd probably get arrested for digging up the marsh since I didn't know if they were protected or not.

  3. Oh yes, I too loved the Platters but my favorites weren't limited to just one song. I agree that there is not much left to embarrass us anymore, is there. Enjoy your Saturday!

  5. I saw "Motorola" and went "ew!" Because my aunt's husband worked for them, relocated them from Chicago to the Tampa area, and then laid him off. My grandma missed her only daughter and grandchildren desperately and blamed Motorola for a lot of heartache. Anyway, it occurs to me that was ... um ... back in the 1980s and besides, after my aunt divorced him, he never kept up with me. Maybe my next phone should be a Motorola. That would show him! :)

  6. Toni, I do not think much embarrasses me anymore either. I am there with you.
I never know many of these songs featured on Saturday 9, but that is ok. I noticed the questions do not have much to do with the song. I play every week. Josh usually knows the songs. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend!

  8. More and more of us are shopping online. One of these days we will never leave our houses and forget what other people look like.
