Unconscious Mutterings #1

Here's another meme I follow called Unconscious Mutterings. I['ll be posting this once a week with different sayings to answer. It's fun and all you do is answer with the first thought come to mind for each question. Here is this week's questions. Usually one word answers will do.

I say ... and you think ...?

1. Electrical ~ Wires
2. Glasses ~ Only for reading
3. Comics ~ Peanuts
4. Satellite ~ Dish
5. Tonight ~ It's warm and humid
6. Sweater ~ Set
7. Clipboard ~ With Pen
8. Unglued ~ Let go
9. Plaid ~ Scarf
10. Upsetting ~ News

Now you try either on your own blog or answer here in comments.

I have a quiet week ahead with nothing planned. I'll probably spend time watching TV, writing poetry and reading besides every day household chores. Have a great day ahead my friends and until next time be blessed.

My "Self List"

I saw this on Facebook and just knew I had to post it on my blog. I got such a kick out of it and thought you would too.

"The Self List"

1. My goal for 2016 was to lose 10 pounds. Only 13 to go!

2. Ate salad for for dinner: Mostly croutons and tomatoes. Really just one big, round crouton covered with tomato sauce and cheese. FINE, It was a pizza, I ate a pizza.

3. How to prepare Tofu: A- Throw it in the trash. B- Grill some meat.

4. I just did a week's worth of cardio after walking into a spider web.

5. I don't mean to brag but...I finished my 14 day diet in 3 hours and 20 minutes.

6. A recent study has found that woman who carry a little extra weight live longer than men who mention it.

7. Kids today don't know how easy they have it. I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

8. I may not be funny or athletic or good looking or smart or talented....I forgot where I was going with this.

9. I love being over 50. I learn something new every day.....and forget 5 others.

10. I think I'll just put an "Out of Order" sticker on my forehead and call it a day.

And that's all folks!!

Until next time my friends, be blessed.

This Week's Movie Review

This past Thursday my sister Phyllis and I went to the movies to see a film with Meryl Streep a favorite actress of mine. And here is my review of the film without giving too much of the plot away.

Florence Foster Jenkins  (2016 release; 110 min.)  This is the latest movie from British director Stephen Frears. Here he brings to the big screen the strange happenings of New York socialite Florence Foster Jenkins  (based on a true story),  who generously supported the New York music scene, and fancied herself a darn good singer too. This movie is NOT a biopic, as we pick up the events in 1944, when she was already 76. Was Florence truly delusional into thinking herself being a great singer? or did she know all along, and simply played along  (to bring some entertainment in dark times)?  Watch as the movie unfolds! The production is helped immensely by the attention to details in the sets and costume department. A number of scenes take place in Carnegie Hall the US temple of classical music, and that too helps. But in the end the movie is powered forward by the outstanding performances of both Meryl Streep  (who is really a wonderful singer)  and Hugh Grant as her doting  (?)  husband. This can be considered a 'come-back' role for Hugh, as he's been mostly absent from the movies in the last 4-5 years. Clearly showing his age now, he still remains a joy to watch on the big screen. I found it funny and sad at the same time but a very good movie.

Until the next time dear friends and family, Have a lovely day ahead and be blessed.

Friday Foto Friends #42

I love wild flowers and there are many in my area. Here are two kinds I enjoy seeing during the summer. The top photo is a Wood Anemone a Native wildflower in Columbia County, NY and the bottom of course are Tiger Lilies which are both wild and hybrid bulbs that can be bought. Tiger lilies thrive well in moist to wet soils and hence grow well near ditches.

The Joy Of Reading

I was always an avid reader and used to read 2-3 books a week. Although I've slowed down in my reading, it's still one of my favorite pass times. I found an old question book meme that I had posted a few years back and I see my answer would still be the same.

  When growing up did your family share your love of books? If so, did one person get you into reading? And, do you have any family-oriented memories with books and reading? (Family trips to bookstore, reading the same book as a sibling or parent, etc.)  When I was a child, reading books were the way to go for enjoyment. I had no real influence as I just loved to read and at Christmas and my birthdays my aunts would always give me books. First and foremost was and is The Bible.
I grew up with all the great classics like Dickens, Cristie, Austin, Tolkein, Lewis, Verne, etc.. and I still enjoy reading them today. My father used to love anything science fiction and I remember sneaking his books at night and reading them in my room after everyone was sleeping.

Do you read? What is your favorite book or books? Let me know what books you like to read if you do. And until next time be blessed.

All Aboard!!

Just had to post these photos that were taken by famed photographer  Dan Heller  in New York City. He's a professional photographer who's photos look a lot like paintings. Here are two of his Grand Central Station in NYC photos. I love that station and his photos.

Clicking on Dan Heller's name above will take you to his site. He has over 60,000 photos on the site taken from all over the world. Of course I'm partial to his New York set. ;-}

That's all there is my friends. I leave you with this quote by ~G.K. Chesterton~ "The only way of catching a train I ever discovered is to miss the train before"...[G]...   Until next time dear friends be blessed.

Another Movie Review

Yesterday I went to the movies to see the latest Star Trek movie with my sister Phyllis. We are both fans and I am a "Trekkie" from way back. Thought you would like to see a review without giving the plot away.
Star Trek Beyond Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as McCoy, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Simon Pegg as Scotty, and John Cho as Sulu, are as comfortable in their parts as a hand in a glove, but it's sad that this is Anton Yelchin’s last appearance as Chekov after his real life untimely death at 22 years of age. He died within a minute of his freak car accident this past June. There is also an acknowledgement of the passing of Leonard Nimoy and his great contributions to the series. Idris Elba’s roll as Krall is like so many of Star Trek’s villains who motivation is not so much malevolence as having lost his way; Sofia Boutila registers strongly as Jayla, a resourceful refugee who comes to the aid of the Enterprise’s crew. And Greg Grunberg  (plays Finnegan)  and Simon Pegg are in that rare group of actors who can say they’ve been in both a Star Trek and a Star Wars film. The visuals are truly stunning; the destruction and crashing of the Enterprise is one of the best special effects sequences in any Star Trek movie so far. Also noteworthy is the massive space station we see in the opening and closing scenes. A lot of laughs and a typical Star Trek movie.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As always after the movie we went to our favorite coffee cafe for coffee and of course a goodie to go with it. A movie, coffee and my sister's company made for the perfect day. That's it for now, until the next time dear friends be blessed.
Female Wisdom!
I found this in my document folder on my drive. I don't remember where I got it or who gave it to me but I thought, like me, you would get a kick out of it. It's truly a wonder how the minds of us females work....LOL
Female Wisdom!
1. One of life's mysteries is how a 2-pound box of chocolates can make a woman gain 5 lbs.
2. My mind not only wanders, it sometimes leaves completely.
3. The best way to forget your troubles is to wear tight shoes.
4. The nice part about living in a small town is that when you don't know what you are doing, someone else does.
5. The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight because by then, your body and your fat are really good friends.
6. Just when I was getting used to yesterday, along came today.
7. Sometimes I think I understand everything, and then I regain consciousness.
8. I gave up jogging for my health when my thighs kept rubbing together and setting fire to my pant's.
9. Amazing! You hang something in your closet for a while and it shrinks 2 sizes!
10. I read this article that said the typical symptoms of stress are eating too much, impulse buying, and driving too fast. Are they kidding? That's my idea of a perfect day!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I now leave you with more words of wisdom, "Never miss an opportunity to make others happy, even if you have to leave them alone in order to do it."...[LOL]...   Until next time be blessed.

A Happy Day For Me

Today is going to be a wonderful and happy day for me and a busy one too. I am so looking forward to seeing my grandson and granddaughter today when they come to visit as it's been a few years since I've seen them, especially my granddaughter  (8 years),  and her 4 boys. I've never seen the two youngest. One is 6 and the baby is 2. The two oldest are 13 and 12. It should be a wonderful reunion. They left Austin Texas early Saturday morning by car and arrived in Germantown last night. My granddaughter told me they hit bad weather around Tennessee and some bad accidents. I'm just so happy and thankful they were kept safe. They are staying over their grandfather's. Being I only have a small one room apartment they can't stay at my place. They'll be here a full week and my family is planning a one day get-together but I'm not sure what day. I'll probably be posting photos of the days ahead.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yesterday was my son and daughter-in-law's 19th anniversary. I love them both so much. They are both a blessing and are blessed. The photo is from last Easter. I am now off to plan the day. Until next time dear friends, be blessed.
Remember My Movie Reviews?
When I had my old websites and blogs I used to review movies every so often. I was told by most of my online friends at that time that they looked forward to reading them. So I thought it would be fun to review the movie I went to see this past Thursday afternoon with my two sisters and brother-in-law. So here goes...
Jason Bourne Matt Damon returns as Jason Bourne. This fourth installment brings back the thrill, intensity, action, and amazing story lines that were used in the original trilogy. The cast alongside Damon were excellent. Tommy Lee Jones was perfect for the role of the CIA director. Alicia Vikander was good as the new breed of schemer within the CIA. She offers an empowering performance as a strong, driven and intelligent female adversary. Vincent Cassel is the asset for the CIA who wants to kill Bourne. Julia Stiles is back to play a short but important role in helping Bourne discover the truths of his past. Jason Bourne is an exciting, intriguing, edge of the seat espionage thriller that is a return to the franchise's form. With a mix of new and old characters to carry the torch, it does not disappoint and becomes another successor to an ever growing series.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After the movie we went to our favorite coffee cafe for coffee and of course a goodie to go with it. My sister Louise is on the left, her hubby Bob is on the right and my sister Phyllis is in the middle. A movie, a coffee and lots of laughs and chatting made for the perfect day. That's it for now, until the next time dear friends be blessed.

Smart Labels??

I'm always looking for things to write that I hope you enjoy reading as much as I do and I know sometimes it's silly things but they are good for a laugh too. And so I've been rummaging through old blog files again!! I've found some great things there that I've shared with you and will still share with you. Especially the funny and strange ones. This one was a lot of laughs. The comments in parentheses after each label are mine. Let me know if you like this sort of stuff or comment on any other "smart labels" you found.

Stupid Label Instructions

On a Sears hairdryer: "Do not use while sleeping."
(Darn, and that's the only time I have to work on my hair).

On a bar of Dial soap: "Directions: Use like regular soap."
(and that would be how?...)

On some Swanson frozen dinners: "Serving suggestion: Defrost."
(but, it's "just" a suggestion).

On Marks & Spencer Bread Pudding: "Product will be hot after heating."
(...ya think?...)

On Nytol Sleep Aid: "Warning: May cause drowsiness."
(and...I'm taking this because??)

On most brands of Christmas lights: "For indoor or outdoor use only."
(as opposed to...what?)

On a Japanese food processor: "Not to be used for the other use."
(now, somebody out there, help me on this. I'm a bit curious.)

On Sainsbury's peanuts: "Warning : contains nuts."
(talk about a news flash)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Amazing isn't it how the manufacturers think of their buying public. And now after leaving you shaking your heads and wondering why, I wish you a blessed day ahead.
A Play On Words
Words have always interested me, I guess that's why I like to put many together in rhyme. One of my favorite kinds are anagrams. I thought you might enjoy reading some I've found through the years.
(a word, or sentence formed by rearranging another word/sentence)
a decimal point = I’m a dot in place
A diet = I’d eat
A Gentleman = Elegant Man
a perfectionist = I often practice
A shoplifter = has to pilfer
A stitch in time saves nine = Is this meant as incentive?
A telephone girl = Repeating “Hello”
A telescope = To see place
Achievements = Nice, save them
Action man = cannot aim
animosity = is no amity
asteroid threats = disaster to earth
Astronomers = Moon starers or No more stars
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hope you enjoyed reading these as much as I enjoyed putting them here for you. Have a great day ahead my friends. Until next time be blessed.
