Review & Unconscious Mutterings #5

Last night I logged on to my Amazon Prime to watch a movie I wanted to see when it came out last year called "The Age Of Adaline". A far-fetched fantasy film rated PG-13 but I don't recommend it for children. I'm so glad I watched it for it was a nice surprise. Blake Lively as Adaline is lovely and very convincing as a 100+ year old woman living in her 29 year old body. As far-fetched as the whole idea sounds, somehow they made it work. Even the narrator (Hugh Ross) at the beginning and end worked well with the film.

Here's this week's Unconscious Mutterings meme. It's fun and all you do is answer with the first thought that comes to your mind for each question. Usually one word answers will do.

I say ... and you think ...?

1. Unflattering ~ Doesn't Do A Thing For You.
2. Challenge ~ You To A Race
3. Passion ~ Fruit
4. Founder ~ Established
5. Home ~ Is Where The Heart Is
6. Puppet ~ Show
7. Lotion ~ Moisterizer
8. Flavor ~ Lemon
9. Respectful ~ ly Yours
10. Runway ~ Train.

Now you try either on your own blog or answer here in comments.

2. Don’t tell me lies, is the last person you texted attractive?  Yes! my beautiful daughter.

3. What are your favorite TV shows?  Right now it's NCIS and NCIS:New Orleans. Others I own on DVD i.e.; Poirot, Miss Marple, Midsomer Murders, and Rosemary and Thyme. I watch them often.

4. Do you believe in God?  Absolutely! With all my heart.

5. Where do you buy groceries? Why?  Shop Rite, because they deliver and I order online. I order twice a month to get me through the month. So far no problems the past three years.

6. Can you taste the difference between Coca Cola and Pepsi?  I don't drink any kind of soda so I wouldn't know. I grew up a milk baby and still love it but my favorite drink is coffee.

Remember When?

I remember very well childhood and teenage toys and games that bring back many memories. One I still play but only the digital version. Here are a list of five. How many of you played with any of them?

#1 ViewMaster: The original Viewmaster came out in 1939 and evolved through the 50’s when the “stereoscopic sightseeing” evolved in to more of a toy like the one you see here. It’s was the kind of thing that would really got your imagination going!

#2 Lock & Key Skates: I loved mine and once you got the hang of them, you could really move especially on the Bronx streets where I grew up. And how fun was it after you did? Enough that they made a song about it! Here’s how the first line went:
"I got a brand new pair of roller skates, You got a brand new key"....etc..

#3 Original Yahtzee: This classic, family-friendly dice game came out in the late 40’s, but didn’t see much action until 1956 when game developer Edwin Lowe began marketing it across the U.S. Milton Bradley purchased the game and rights to market it in 1973, which brought it in to modern times. I still play it today but on my laptop under the name of "Maxi Dice".

#4 Hula Hoop: Would you believe the Hula Hoop didn’t actually come out until 1958? Like most toys, this one went through different times in waves. It’s one of those things you can come back to again and again and still enjoy.

#5 Slinky: Genius! Slinkys were always cool, and a quintessential childhood toy and an icon of classic fun. With a theme song that sticks with you for life, Slinky has captivated kids with its ability to walk down stairs. Still being enjoyed today by kids and grownups alike.

Not much going on right now here with me and so I'll leave you with this quote,  "Childhood is the most beautiful of all life's seasons". Have a day of blessings dear friends.

And Now, For The Unusual

Every once in awhile I travel the world  (through the internet, LOL)  and look for unusual structures like trees, houses, strange art, etc. And can't get over the things I find. Here is my latest unusual find from around the world I thought you might enjoy along with me.

Built on a rock on the river Drina near the western Serbian town of Bajina Basta
Toilet-shaped house in Suwon, about 46 km (29 miles) south of Seoul
Airplane house in the village of Miziara, Lebanon
The Heliodome, a bioclimatic solar house in Cosswiller, Eastern France

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I guess my art and wondering mind loves to look for anything unusual. {G}..I love this kind of stuff even though I can't imagine ever living in these homes. Hope you enjoyed seeing it too. Until next time be blessed my friends.
Friday Foto Friends #50
This past Tuesday morning about 8:00am I happened to look out my bedroom window. The sky was blue and clear with the moon in sight. The sun shone bright on the trees in full golden color. I grabbed my cellphone and took these two photos through the window. I thought you would enjoy seeing them too. The photos are untouched and straight from my cellphone. Click on them to see full size.
Another Pumpkin Bread Recipe
I've seen many different pumpkin bread recipes in my time so I thought I'd post another one for you to see or copy to make for yourself and your family.
Pumpkin Bread
Ingredients
1-1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon salt
1-3/4 cups sugar
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon extra-light olive oil
3/4 cup canned unsweetened pumpkin puree
3 tablespoons water
Directions
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Lightly oil a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. In a large bowl, with an electric mixer, beat together the sugar, eggs, oil and pumpkin. Add the flour mixture to the pumpkin mixture alternating with the water, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix only until blended. Do not overmix. Spoon the batter into the loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the loaf sit in the pan for 15 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
NOTES:  Makes 1 loaf (about 12 slices).
Last evening feeling better and the first time I left my apartment in a week, my sister Louise picked me up and we went over to our sister Phyllis' for our weekly game of cards. It's always a fun evening catching up on the latest family news, with a lot of laughs and walking down memory lane. We usually play one game called "Hand & Foot" a canasta type game. It's a five step game played with one more deck than the amount of players. Last night was my turn to win. LOL! Today I'm not sure what I'll be doing besides catching up on household chores. Anyway dear friends, until next time be blessed.
It's Not My Day!
Well at least that's the way I felt since yesterday. Had a bad night sleeping. I woke up with the start of a sore throat and stuffed nose and another cold, watery eyes, coughing and sniffling. This is not a good way to start a weekend. Hopefully by Monday with rest, tea and honey  (I'm not a medicine taker)  I'll feel more normal and myself.
Went to work on this blog early this morning and because I'm so tired I accidentally deleted my Friday Foto Friends entry. I'm just to tired to do it again.
Not much else going on right now and I'm not sure of the weekend as it will depend on how I'll feel. So my friends, I hope your days are better and blessed.
Friday Foto Friends #48
Anyone that knows me, knows my love for trains and seeing empty tracks at different times and seasons brings out the awe and wonder in me. There is something about those empty tracks that are beautiful besides being forlorn and lonely. I can almost hear the distant whistle and rumbling train coming down these lonely lines. You can find beauty in almost anything in this world if you only look for it.
The Fog and Tracks of Georgia
The Empty Track of Mt. Pocono, Penn.
The Rails and Rainbow of Nashville, Tenn.
The Sunset Tracks of Secret Pass, Nevada
