Yesterday I went to my Ophthalmologist for a routine checkup. I had cataract surgery in both eyes 6 years ago, but the past 6-7 months I noticed cloudiness in my left eye (sometimes called aftercataract). In some people, it can become very dense and cause as much or more vision loss as the original cataract I have healthy eyes with no sign of Glaucoma or Macular Degeneration and 20-20 vision needing only store bought reading glasses. but the cloudiness in my left eye has affected my vision a lot and has become very annoying..My doctor diagnosed me with posterior capsule opacification. The following explains this:
The most common complication of cataract surgery is clouding of the part of the lens covering (capsule) that remains after surgery, called posterior capsule opacification. If the cloudiness affects your vision, you may choose to have a laser surgery called Nd:YAG posterior capsulotomy to correct this problem.
The doctor will apply topical anesthetic (eyedrops) so that you won't feel pain. Then he or she will use a laser (Nd:YAG laser) to cut a hole in the clouded back lining of the lens capsule. This allows light to pass through the membrane to the retina at the back of the eye.
YAG laser posterior capsulotomy is an outpatient procedure. The person may wait in the outpatient surgery area or the doctor's office for 1 to 2 hours after the procedure so that he or she can have the pressure in the eye (intraocular pressure) checked. Intraocular pressure (IOP) is the pressure caused by the fluid inside the eye that helps keep the shape of the eye. They should not feel pain after the surgery.
I will be having the surgery this month or next. I'm not sure yet when it will be scheduled. My Ophthalmologist says I will see a big difference and be glad I had it done. Well there you go. I hope that explains it all. So dear friends I'll let you know when and how it turns out. In the meantime have a day of blessings.
Ugh, I am so sorry, Toni...I just had my regular checkup and there was little change and the glaucoma test was good. I wear bifocals and sometime this week, the new glasses will be in.
ReplyDeleteKeeping you in prayer, friend. Isn't modern medicine a marvel? smiles
I will be praying for this. Not pleasant to have any kind of surgery. I believe my Dad had this done .. the laser in the eye, to help him see and that was in the early 1980s so this must be way more advanced now. I am so thankful God has blessed us with this kind of help.
ReplyDeleteWhen they tell you the date I will be there in spirit with you.
Have a beautiful Wednesday Toni.
