You may have heard New Yorkers create a buzz around Manhattanhenge in May and July but scratched your head trying to figure out what it is exactly, or why people are standing in the streets staring in awe at the sunset.
Manhattanhenge is all about timing. It is the spectacular moment when the sun aligns perfectly with the city streets. When it occurs, and the sky is clear, we have the opportunity to watch the sunset perfectly from east to west streets in Manhattan. The event happens twice a year in May and July and is often referred to as the Manhattan Solstice. There you go! Wish I was able to see it in person {sigh!}.
Until the next time dear friends and family be blessed
Pretty...I'm not use to it still being daylight at 9:30 pm, smiles.
ReplyDelete"a beautiful sunset that aligns perfectly with the New York City grid."
ReplyDeleteDid they build the city that way on purpose?
No Sandi. But I bet they wished they did. :)
DeleteVery exciting for NYC. The buildings make the skyline impossible most of the time, so this is a big deal.
ReplyDeleteNow, that IS cool! I love it!! Thanks for sharing it with us! I love that the people actually stop for a moment from their busy pursuits to enjoy God's beauty in the midst of downtown Manhattan. What a blessing for them!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome photos!
