I was on the hospital gurney just about ready to be operated on and had an intravenous drip inserted and just about ready to get 2 injections when the surgeon stopped the Nuclear medic from continuing. It seems when my surgeon re-examined under my armpit she felt an enlarged lymph node that wasn't there before. She explained it's most likely cancerous as Breast cancer can spread to any of the 20 lymph nodes under the arm and breast. Most often, it spreads to the axillary lymph nodes first (in the armpit). She was very honest and caring with me telling me if they operated the second procedure they might have to remove many if not all of the nodes under the arm and this would cause me to lose at least 30% of my arm and if my arm swells up it will be swollen for ever. In plain English I would lose use of my arm. She said if it was her mother she wouldn't want her to go through with the surgery until she sees an oncologist for treatment to reduce the lymph node. That means 2 months of treatment before mastectomy surgery can be preformed. She is sending me to the best as the Oncologist is considered one of the best in the nation. Here is her site so you can see how qualified she is.

My Unbelievable Journey So Far...
For the second time I was sent home 20 minutes before surgery after going 2 days without sleep and nothing to eat or drink from 9:30 pm the night before. We had to leave at 5:30 am Wednesday to drive an hour and a half to the hospital. Once in I was pre-opt and waiting.

So there you go my friends. My saying (I usually say) is "This can only happen to me"...Unbelievable.!!..

ReplyDeleteHi Toni, I am sorry you have to go through this. I am praying for you. The same thing is going on with my aunt. She just had a chemo port put in. They want to try to shrink things before the surgery. Thanks for keeping us posted Toni! Hugs and prayers.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry Toni. That is how my cancer started---well, actually it started with skin cancer and further testing/imaging found other things etc. I elected the surgery route and had the lymph nodes removed and a mastectomy. Yes, the left arm is weak and always will be. I just got so tired of being yanked around...I had a 6 year old who just came home from open heart surgery and I just felt whatever it took to stay alive personally, was best. That was 15 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry...I am simply flabbergasted at all this my friend. Big hugs and lots of love.
I had an ultrasound and biopsy done today and it was 3 biopsies they are testing. I'll know when I get the results in a few days. With me it's the age thing plus other factors. You and I have a lot in common my friend. My youngest was born with transposition of the great arteries and had his first open heart surgery hours after he was born. His last operation at the age of 2 and a half lasted over 14 hours in Buffalo Children's hospital where they found hidden holes behind the arteries and he never came home. Today he would have lived as medical surgery has become so far advanced. Hugs and love back dear Linda.
