My Meme And How I Spent Yesterday

Here's one of my Tuesday 4 Meme. This meme will always have just 4 questions each week. I hope you enjoy doing this one along with me and you can always answer in comments or copy and paste and answer on your own blog.

My Personal Preferences

1.  Quiet evening at home or Out on the town?: Quiet evening at home most of the time but when I have the chance or ways and means, I enjoy being out on the town. To me "out on the town" means going out to dinner, seeing a movie, or anywhere away from home.

2.  Watch a movie or read a good book?: Both, depending on my mood and sometimes both at the same time. I average 1-2 books a week and many more in the movie category.

3.  Order a meal or cooking one yourself?: Again, depending on my mood I like either. I like to cook and I like to "be served" my dinner in a good restaurant.

4.  Going for a walk or taking a ride in the car?: When I was able to, I loved to go for long walks and hikes, today out of necessity and bad knees it would be a ride in the car driven by others as I don't drive anymore because of my bad knees.

NOTE:  Painting by William Kay Blacklock (1872-1922) British Painter. titled "A Quiet Read"

Yesterday I spent a quiet day over my sister and brother-in-law's apartment  (they live here in my apartment complex)  for lunch and a game of hand and foot. Later we went back to my apartment to watch one of my DVDs. Here's part of my DVD collection in the photo and part of one my paintings on the wall. My BIL picked out an old one with Kirk Russell titled "Stargate" a good sci-fi movie.

Until the next time dear friends and family, have a day of blessings.

Memorial Day Remembered

I for one, never considered Memorial Day a holiday. To me it is more of a Rememberance Day. I've had members of my family seriously wounded in many of our wars starting from WWII. As a young girl, I remember the many trips to different cemeteries on Memorial Day with family that spent the day crying over their losses. So, today I spend in prayer and praying for the wounded men and women and the families of our youth who lost their lives for our freedom and our country. I will also spend the day praying for all the young men and woman who are deployed and fighting what seems like a never ending war, that they get home safe and soon to their homes and families.

I remember all those lost heroes in poem also

War Heroes Remembered

Remembering the day in early morn
Going to grave sites and silently bow
Quietly proudly to love and mourn
These heroes of wars then and now

I will always give my heartfelt thanks
I kneel before your gray marble cross
You who answered our country's call
Now laid to rest and covered with moss

The world may now have forgotten
Those who served this country well
Veterans who have given their all
Yet returned home in a box from hell.

But I remember and will never forget
Our war heroes and the price it cost
They proudly fought to keep us free
And paid with lives now forever lost.

Friday Foto Friends ~ Memories In Photos

Going through one of my Flash Drives I found memories of photos I've taken from past trips and some that just caught my eyes. Here are three I chose to post for the Friday Foto Friends that I thought you might like to see.

Year 2005: in May The Nobska Lighthouse taken on a trip to Cape Cod, MA

Year 2007: in July Pink Clouds decorate the early morning sky.

Year 2011: in October Beginning of Autumn of the Hudson Athens Lighthouse on the Hudson River.
The boat was a delight to see also.

Wednesday's Poetry Day ~ A Day In The Sun

Looking forward to the "real" summer weather in my area and seeing how families enjoy spending a day in the sun made me think and write a poem about it.

A Day In The Sun

Sitting at the beach taking in the sun
and watching families near the shore
Kids chasing each other and having fun
splashing and laughing begging for more

How wonderful the summer days are
when families spend days together
Playing in the sand by the seashore
and just enjoying the summer weather

Not a cloud in the bright blue sky
nor call for rain or thunderstorm
I watch the seagulls flying on by
and the soft breeze is slightly warm

So fast this day now passes on by
and the families now get ready to go
They pass me waving a friendly goodbye
as the sky turns to an evening glow

I too now dress and get ready to go
folding my chair I turn once more
And see the seagulls circling slow
I watch as waves now kiss the shore

How wonderful the summer days are
when families spend days together
Playing in the sand by the seashore
and just enjoying the summer weather

Friday Foto Friends ~ A Trip To Remember

Not having any recent photos I took myself to post for this week, I thought I would post photos I took in May of 2014 with my sister on a day trip to The Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs at Auriesville, N.Y. It is such a beautiful place where one can sit quietly and visit with the Lord and take in the peaceful beauty. Click on photos to see full size.

A Little Background History: ~ The Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs at Auriesville, N.Y., sits atop a hill overlooking a bend in the Mohawk River. By tradition, the site is believed to be the location of the fortified Mohawk village known as Ossernenon. The Jesuit martyrs St. René de Goupil, St. Isaac Jogues and St. Jean de Lalande laid down their lives sharing the Gospel with the Mohawk Indians. St. Kateri was born here little more than 10 years after their deaths. Many other Catholics, less known to history, also suffered torture in order to share the love of Jesus among the Mohawks at that place. For 130 years, from 1885 to 2015, the Society of Jesus operated a shrine on this site. Pilgrims flocked here from all over North America. The Jesuits built the imposing coliseum church, with five separate altars grouped around the center and a capacity for 6,000 worshippers, in 1930. It was built for an age where “going on pilgrimage” was a pillar of Catholic identity.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

I thought I'd do a shortened version of an old meme called the Simple Woman's Daybook that I used to do. I haven't done one in so long I figured it would be fun to do again.

FOR TODAY

Outside my window... it's 5:00 AM and almost light outside.

I am thinking... about another day of high heat and humidity. Amazing how we went from Autumn type weather to hot Summer weather in just a couple of days! We are expecting to hit the middle 90s again today.

I am wearing... a knit tunic, slacks and slipper sandals right now. (I don't wear shoes in the apartment).

I am creating... this post entry right now.

I am going... to try and vaccum and dust today if the heat doesn't get me down.

I am looking forward to... relaxing a bit today as the pain in my legs have been really hurting me.

Around the apartment... there is not much to do. It's easy to keep everything in place when you live alone.

One of my favorite things... To do is relax with a cup of coffee and maybe create some new graphics or write a poem or read a book.

A few plans for the rest of the week: so far looks like the same old, same old until something comes up.

Not much else to post and so dear friends and family have a day of blessings and keep cool.

Tuesday 4 Meme ~ Summer

I thought it was time to bring back my Tuesday 4 Meme again since I had a very quiet no posting past few days spent partly with family and partly being lazy, so at least today I will post one of my own memes. You can copy the questions to place on your own blog or answer them here in comments.

Summer Preferences:

1.  Lounging by the Pool or Picnic by the Lake?   For me it's picnic by the lake as I don't swim the pool wouldn't be a choice.

2.  Shopping or Day at the Beach?   I hate shopping and only do so online but I do like sitting by the shore listening to the waves.

3.  Barbeque Cookout or Favorite Restaurant?   Both. I'll go either depending on the gang I hang around with. Gang a.k.a. Family ;-}

4.  Flea Market or Sports Game?   Flea Market I love watching other people get rid of items as they may turn out to be treasures for me. As for the sports game for me is baseball the NY Yankees to be exact, I watch the games on my TV and am comfortable doing so.

I'm a big fan of posting memes as anybody who knows me would agree and I hope you join in and play along too. In the meantime dear friends have a blessed day ahead.

I thought I would repeat Annie's Meme list of questions she had on her blog last year as part of a tribute to my Mom who is with Our Lord. I miss her more and more each day.

2. What dressing does she eat?  Her favorite was blue cheese
3. Name a food she hates That I can't answer for I never saw her not eat anything that was in front of her. My mom was an excellent cook.

9. What is her favorite breakfast?  Not sure, she ate whatever she made.
10. What would she never wear?  Makeup. She would only use lipstick when going out. My mom had perfect young looking skin.
11. What is her favorite sports Team? I think like me she liked the NY Yankees
12. What is something that you do that she wishes you didn't do?  LOL!! Too many to name but she loved me anyway.
13. What's her favorite animal?  Her cat Buttercup who passed a couple of years after she did.
14. What could she spend all day doing?  Working in her garden and walking before her illness.

My Mom Who Walked In Beauty

The saying goes, "She walks in beauty"
Her smile and kindness never ending
A mom now gone, did that for all to see
And oh her faith was never bending.

The perfect wife and mother was she
Her strong example shown each day
The love she held in her heart so special
To all of her 5 children in every way.

Now looking down and still protecting
Her son and daughters here on earth
With prayer and open arms she holds
Just as she did from their early birth.

Oh yes, my mom who walked in beauty
Her smile and kindness never ending
A mom now gone, did that for all to see
And oh her faith was never bending.

The Artists Corner #6

It's been awhile since I've posted an artists corner so today I'm featuring two paintings by Millie Gosch an avid plein air painter who says, "I paint what I know, and what I love is nature. In my work I strive to bring my viewer into the painting and let them make it their own experience". The first one is titled, "Hope With Feathers" and the second is titled "Still Life". Beautiful aren't they.

Hope you enjoy me presenting artists and their paintings here on my blog every so often, just let me know what you think. Until next time dear friends and family, be blessed.
