1. Mother's Day was first observed in 1908. It was designated by Presidential proclamation, and was recognized officially by Congress and the President in 1914. It is celebrated in honor of Mothers on the second Sunday of May.
2. Armed Forces Day is celebrated the third Saturday of May. The United States honors the men and women of the military services. The Armed Forces Day Celebration combined the Army, Navy, and the Air Force in 1950. Prior to that year, they had been held at separate times.
3. Memorial Day or Decoration Day is observed, in most states of the United States, the last Monday in May. It is a legal holiday and is observed in memory of those who died while serving the United States in war. The graves of the war heroes are decorated with flags and flowers. It was first observed in 1866.
Calendar turns to the month of May
Now we spend more time outside
Warmer weather is here to stay
Our windows usually opened wide
Trees filled with new green leaves
Gardens filled with scented blooms
Green grass lawns freshly mowed
Gone away is last season's gloom
Yes warmer weather is here to stay
Time to enjoy a day off outside
Relax, just let this month sink in
Forget the work, just let it slide.

Until next time dear family and friends have a day of blessings.
Happy May Day Toni!! Enjoyed your poem, wish I could write poems like that, you are so talented!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary, it's appreciated my friend.
DeleteI always love your poems as they are so easy to relate to. I am not enjoying May so far as sciatica is acting up very badly. I think a good hearty dose of Hercule Poirot is in order.
